An antique desk / office / work lamp marked “Supreme” ADAPT-O-LITE to the central riser mechanism and the base. English 1920s-30s. Reminiscent of the somewhat famous Churchill associated Robert Dudley Best “Bestlite” table lamp. I don’t know if this was designed / produced earlier or later or whether one influenced the other but i would guess this is a slightly earlier lamp. It hasn’t achieved the (lampworld) iconic status of the Bestlite lamp but is certainly a standout design of early 20th century British lighting. A great task light. An excellent, table or work lamp and hard to find. Fully adjustable, works perfectly, everything stays exactly in place and steady even in it’s most extended position. Made from chromed brass with a spun aluminium shade and a cast iron weighted base. The height adjusts by a clever spring loaded / friction mechanism that moves up and down the central stem. The angle of the arm adjusts and the shade is also adjustable, being attached to the arm with a ball and socket joint. The lamp has been completely dis-assembled, cleaned, re-sprayed, polished, rebuilt and rewired with 3.5 meters black fabric flex, chromed brass safety-switched lampholder and a 3amp plug. Pat tested. Dimensions in inches/cms; 30.5″/77cms maximum height to apex of arm bend (vertical). 17″/43cms height (of central stem) Base is 8″/20cms diameter Max width is 24″/61cms Weight is 3.2kg.
